How would Harry Potter be if it were set two centuries back, in the 1800s? It would probably be like A Breath of Frost by Alyxandra Harvey.

PLOT: A broken curse threatens to wreak havoc in the lives of Emma and her cousins. As each thread of the mysterious plot unravels, it makes the past and their legacy more clear to the girls.
CHARACTERS: Emma, Gretchen and Penelope three Cousins, best friends and loyal to each other to the core. Each with a personality of their own that couldn’t be more different from the other two, each with their own personal struggles and each with love and loyalty that can only be compared to the other two. These three girls made me wish I had a sister or at least my cousins were the same age as me. Cormac is the boy stuck between his mind and heart. Moria the sweet, outlaw. These and many other characters make a strong story.
WHAT I LIKED: One would think that a story dealing with Witches, Warlocks and stuff would get old and predictable and boring. Well, I will tell you that this story is gripping and never gets boring right down to the last page. Each twist and turn is gripping and unpredictable. Yeah and the romance well sigh I wish every man in love tell his woman that he belongs here. The struggle that Cormac goes through in the book between duty and love well reminds you of Mr Darcy. And Regency London brought alive, with its balls, the dances, the rule, and the finery doesn’t disappoint.
WHAT I DID NOT LIKE: I have to wait for book two. On a serious note yeah I really don’t want to wait for book two, but I think I would have liked to see a little more of the lesson Especially the magical ones and the day-to-day lives of the witches in that era. But since this is a trilogy, maybe it will come in book two. The start of the book is a bit wobbly and takes time to steady itself. But once steady it moves at an effective pace and flows right.
FINAL VERDICT: If you like Historical Romances and Fantasies this book is definitely for you. Beware though you may be spellbound to not put the book down at all until you have reached the end.
